Kendall Concerts presents Katelyn Convery at the OMSI Planetarium

Kendall Concerts: Music Under the Dome is a monthly planetarium concert series combining live performances with stunning visuals in riots of color, shape and movement, enveloping the audience into an adventure of the senses without ever having to leave their seat.

”With a buttery, breathless roar over the warmth of a single acoustic guitar, singer-songwriter Katelyn Convery's soothing tones tap into deeper histories and an undeniable emotional momentum, accentuated by atmospheric bass lines and a driving percussive heartbeat. Convery's writing captures universal stories through a unique lens and a varied collection of influences from her worldly pursuits, including busking solo-acoustic in Barcelona and recording an electronic-house album in South Africa. Born and raised in Oregon, any wandering ear might call her one of Portland's best kept secrets, though not for long. Portland Notes called Katelyn "a voice to remember" following the 2015 release of her debut album, Unarmed. Her truest home resides in the very songs she writes: a refreshingly raw, honest take on alternative pop reminiscent of both Carlile and Morissette.”

Artichoke Music Showcase: Margaret Wehr

Artichoke Music is proud to feature local songwriter Margaret Wehr for this edition of our Music Showcase. She is perhaps best known for her work supporting a long list of Portland artists, including Y La Bamba, Moorea Masa & the Mood, Haley Johnsen, Olivia Awbrey, and Katelyn Convery. As a solo artist, Wehr’s songwriting holds its own: a powerhouse of intricate melodies and vulnerable lyrical storytelling, where catchy guitar rhythms pair perfectly with ethereal, empowered vocals. Wehr’s musical vision involves a unique fusion of folk and indie electro pop, with intricately layered vocals, rhythmic guitar and violin played through looper/effects pedals. Think Sara Bareilles meets Sylvan Esso.

Doors at 7:30. Music at 8. $15. All ages.

POSTPONED: Isabeau Waia'u Walker // Margaret Wehr

UPDATE: This show has been postponed due to unforseen circumstances at the venue.

I have such a deep love for Isabeau Waia’u Walker’s hauntingly beautiful voice and refreshingly authentic presence. I have had the great pleasure of singing backup with her in support of Y La Bamba and Ryan Oxford over the past couple of years, and just adore her playful spirit and kind heart.

I am astonished that the two of us have yet to play a show together, and very excited to announce that we will be sharing an intimate evening of original music together at Portland Hostel on August 25th. Trust me, you’ll want to be there. More details to come!

Margaret Wehr // Hannah Jane Kile // The Duke of Norfolk

My excitement for this show cannot be understated.

My dear friend Hannah Jane Kile is on tour from Sacramento! Her voice is heart-breakingly gorgeous, rocking those Sara Bareilles/Allison Krauss vibes all day long. I have no idea how she does what she does, and she’s also the sweetest and most genuine person you will ever meet.

As if that wasn’t enough, one of my very favorite local artists (and also a dear new friend), The Duke of Norfolk, will be opening with a set of his stunning alt-folk tunes that will leave your mind wandering off to some distant land, chasing after your heart. I never get tired of seeing him play.

I’ll be joined for my set by the wonderful Galen Clark on keys! Hope to see you there.

Olivia Awbrey // Whim // Elizabeth Pixley-Fink

Another opportunity to hear these songs with a rad 4-piece band! I just adore Olivia and so admire the way she moves about the world. The lyrics to these songs are poignant, relevant, sarcastic, smart as hell. The band slays.

There will be lots of sounds. Put them in your ears. You will like them.

I’m thrilled to be singing in her sexy, soulful R&B band for Summer Meltdown 2019, alongside our friends Shook Twins, The Dip, Kuinka, Dirty Revival, Nahko & Medicine for the People. Check out the festival website for tickets and the full line-up!

Al’s Den: Galen Clark Residency featuring Margaret Wehr

This week Al’s Den is featuring one of Portland’s hardest working musicians: keyboardist/organist Galen Clark (Trio Subtronic, Galen Clark Trio). Clark is versatile and experienced behind the keys, gigging several nights a week with a wide selection of Portland’s finest.

Clark will be joined this evening by songwriter Margaret Wehr. Wehr is an indie folk-pop artist who specializes in catchy, lyric-driven songs written over rhythmic acoustic guitar (and often featuring Clark on piano). Her vocals draw in the listener with ethereal, haunting beauty behind a fierce vulnerability.
